Saimaa Lake is the biggest in Finland and the fourth biggest lake in Europe. For sure, the most impressive that I have seen in my life so far. It is one of the most outstanding attractions in Finland and one of the main natural spectacles in the world. The lake area is limited by two famous towns of incomparable beauty: Lappeenranta in the south, and Savonlinna, in the north.
We wandered for a couple of days around the lake area and through it: had the unique experience to drive the car through extremely narrow roads surrounded by water both sides and also the pleasure of having an evening trip around the archipelago with a ferry. Some of the experiences will be remembered for a long time: the view of the cottages and the saunas from the ferry and the walk from the Savonlinna's harbour to the Alovinlinna Castle. Just delicious.
